Namaste Sanskrit
Teaching Methodology
At NAMASTEसंस्कृत, we use an integrated designed method to teach Sanskrit innovatively catering to the individual student’s needs
COMMUNICATIVE APPROACH
Language is a means of communication. So, we focus more on student speaking and learning Sanskrit. This process is adopted by babies while learning their mother-tongue slowly and gradually, grasping words from the environment provided to them; making efforts to speak, committing mistakes and learning from it. We often say, when only the teacher speaks, it’s called भाषण & when it’s the student’s active participation involved, then it will be सम्भाषण, that we focus on.
USE OF ACTIONS
As actions involve body movements, it keeps the student active while learning, and it promotes the development of oral language. There is no age limit for learning while doing actions. For example, kids learn Rhymes by actions, so do youth tend to memorize filmy songs and their dance steps, by watching & doing. Why not forget our age & perform actions to enable happy learning experience!
USE OF LANGUAGE
We encourage parents and children to speak the learnt portions of class at home. Parents can even join for Spoken Sanskrit Course so as to help the child and speak Sanskrit at home with one another. Parents of NAMASTEसंस्कृत have reported this to be a good-rapport building activity with their children. One of the parents expressed her daughter’s enthusiasm in teaching them to speak Sanskrit. They have even set an hour daily to speak Sanskrit in the family, that makes you a संस्कृत–कुटुम्बम् (a proud Sanskrit family)
DIRECT METHOD
Student learns Sanskrit text’s meaning in Simpler Sanskrit. They connect meaning of the text directly in Sanskrit. For example, when a kid is learning an English rhyme Jack and Jill went up the hill… The teacher doesn’t teach them its meaning in Hindi that जेक और जील पर्वत पर गए… or any other vernacular language, but instead in simplest of simple English words, with actions and the kids grasp it too. We use similar method to teach Sanskrit majority of the time; as far as the learner’s choice, ability & convenience to understand.
CLASSICAL METHOD
Classical method directs us to translate & explain Sanskrit texts. This method is used for Sanskrit at school-level, and texts with greater in-depth explanation. Catering to the individual needs of learners, we use this method, where the text is translated and explained in English/ Hindi/ Gujarati.
CORRECT PRONUNCIATION
Pronunciation of Sanskrit words are very important, so is the correct intonation. Students are trained to pronounce words slowly and clearly and repeat it.
